Manufacturing Is Forecast to Have Steady Growth in 2020

Manufacturing should expand in the first half of 2020, the Institute for Supply Management said in a semi-annual economic forecast. The group also expects growth to remain steady in the second half of next year. “We think we’re going to have a fairly stable year at fairly moderate growth compared to the last three years,” Timothy R. Fiore, chair of ISM's Manufacturing Business Survey Committee, said on a conference call. The forecast is based on a survey of purchasing and supply executives across 18 manufacturing industries.

Machine Tool Orders Post Monthly Gain in October


Machine tool orders posted a small gain in October, helped by a boost from machine shops and the auto industry, according to a monthly report. Orders totaled $376 million, AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology said. That was a 2.1 percent gain from an adjusted $368.4 million for September. However, orders fell compared with October 2018, a period when orders remained red hot. Also, orders for the first 10 months of 2019 were substantially lower compared with the same period in 2018.
