Automakers Find Themselves on Receiving End of President's Tweets
Automakers, including Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., found themselves on the receiving end of tweets from President Donald Trump. The president attacked Ford because it was one of four automakers that reached an agreement with the state of California to reduce emissions. The state wants to preserve tougher standards. The president also launched a volley at GM even though it's not part of the California deal.

Robot Company FANUC Creates Industry 4.0-Friendly software
FANUC has made real one of the promises of Industry 4.0, that of predictive maintenance for factory equipment, with its Zero Down Time IoT solution. ZDT can be applied to any of FANUC’s robotic arms and their peripherals. To help with the rest of the automation in a factory, later this year the robotics company will make available FANUC’s Intelligent Edge Link and Drive (FIELD) system, a free and open-source platform for third-party developers to use to write applications that will collect and analyze data from other automated equipment. German metrology developer Jenoptik is shifting “from focusing on metrology and laser processing standalone equipment to integrated automation solutions for the automotive industry and other new applications, including aerospace,” so it recently bought Prodomax Automation in Barrie, Ontario, and Five Lakes Automation, in Michigan, Prodomax Co-CEO Carolyn Garvey said. Jenoptik has devised a four-year strategic plan that includes more innovation, she said. “They’re going to devote even more R&D funds to the innovation piece.”
