Manufacturing Loses 1.33 Million Jobs in April Because of COVID-19

U.S. manufacturing lost 1.33 million jobs last month as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) slammed the economy. The bulk of the loss was in durable goods industries. Total manufacturing employment is now just above the all-time low of a decade ago. The results were part of a broader surge in unemployment. Big manufacturing job losers included motorized vehicles and parts and fabricated metal products.

Machine Tool Orders Post Monthly Gain in March But Lag on Year-Over-Year Basis


Machine tool orders posted a monthly gain in March while falling compared with a year earlier, AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology said. Orders weakened in the second half of March, the McLean, Va.-based group said in a monthly report. AMT said it expects orders for April and May will decline because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
